Sam Boughen (26) recently woke from a coma asking his emotional family for a KFC chicken burger. Mr Boughen suffers from a rare genetic liver disease and has since undergone two life-saving transplants. Mr Boughen spent eight days in a coma after he contracted a devastating lung disease and the deadly bacteria E.coli as he battled to stay alive on life support.

His family was shocked when Mr Boughen woke from his coma and used an ipad to ask for a KFC burger.

In the early hours of the 15th April he went through a nine-hour operation after a new liver was found from a donor. This is when Mr Boughen's doctors discovered that while he was recovering he was found to have contracted E.coli and a life-threatening lung infection.

While in the hospital Mr Boughen used an ipad and iphone to communicate with his family after he had a tracheotomy that rendered him unable to speak.

Martin Boughen (sams father, 53) gave his son 60% of his liver in January 2012 after Sam was diagnosed with the genetic liver disease.
Martin Boughen also stated: "it is a sad statistic that while 96% of the population would accept an organ if they needed one, only 30% of the population are registered as organ donors.

"if it wasn't for an organ donor, we would of lost Sam."

If you or a friend is interested in becoming an organ donor visit the NHS organ donation site.
